Ákos Horváth holds an MSc in Engineering Physics and a PhD in Physical Chemistry from ELTE (Budapest). He joined the Atomic Energy Research Institute of the Centre for Energy Research in 1995. His research focuses on the radiation damage mechanisms of nuclear reactor structural materials. For many years, he was responsible for materials irradiation, testing, and high-temperature corrosion studies at the Budapest Research Reactor. He has participated in several European research projects on the ageing of nuclear reactors. Since 2022, he has been the president of the V4G4 Centre for Excellence, a regional collaboration among the V4 countries in nuclear energy. He is a member of the National Research Infrastructure Committee of the National Research, Development and Innovation Office.
Since 2013, he has held the position of Director General of the HUN-REN Centre for Energy Research and is a member of the Hungarian Academy of Engineers. He is also a member of the Scientific Technical Committee (STC) of the European Commission and a Hungarian delegate to the SET Plan Steering Group.
